Giving Tuesday - Time, Talents and Treasures
“Do what you can with what you’ve been given where you’ve been given it ”
For the last 5 years, #GivingTuesday has been a beautiful, global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Trellis' heart is to help individuals and organizations use the time, talents and treasures entrusted to them to support and strengthen their communities
With that, here are a few ways to support Giving Tuesday locally
Time
For some, money is tight and though the desire to give is there, financial realities and pressures make giving difficult. Time, however is something we all have and here are a few ways to use it for others
Pray for
- The Country - What would it look like for us to take some of the time spent debating, disagreeing and venting and turn them towards and over to God? Here's a liturgy that can help guide those prayers
- Redemption Church - This beautiful community is moving their ministry to Red Hook in a purposeful effort to join God in what He's been doing in Red Hook. Pray for them as they begin their Bible study January 8th and find out more about how to pray HERE
Serve at
- Recovery House of Worship - This beautiful church serves men and women in need through their community breakfast and food pantry. This is an opportunity not only to give time to bless but also spend time with beautiful people. Find out more about how when and how to serve HERE
- Teen Challenge - This Brooklyn based organization offers faith based solutions to those who struggle with life-controlling issues. Volunteers can help with their youth services and food pantry. Find out more HERE
Treasures
Giving of our finances is an opportunity both to affirm and support organizations doing great work and actively put our trust in a God who promises to provide for us as we give purposefully and sacrificially for the sake of others

- The Alex House Project - All to many times , young mothers and fathers are judged for the lack of confidence in birthing and raising a healthy child . The Alex House Project provides programs and services and a safe space for young mothers and fathers where they can grow and nurture while breaking through cultural barriers. $25 can support their efforts and you find out more HERE
- I AM KNOWN Campaign - This year, the goal is to raise $15,000 in order to clothe and engage 700 people throughout NYC through their I AM KNOWN hoodies. The project seeks to engage the forgetten with the truth that they are known. "We believe that all are created in the image of God and each person has dignity and value. This is a truth that can not be forgotten and people need to be reminded that they are seen, heard, known and loved." Find out more and give HERE
Time and Treasures
There are a few organizations where there is opportunity to give time and treasures and one of those is Safe Families
Time - Safe Families is inviting churches to partner in providing open homes to families in crisis. Trainings and seminars are provided regularly in helping churches recover the lost art and practice of Biblical hospitality. Find out more about the forums and how to get your church involved HERE
Treasures - This ministry has just begun in New York and through this crowd-funding project, you can help enable volunteers in New York City to provide community and support to families throughout our great city. You can give to their great work HERE
