Violence Interrupter in Crown Heights

The Mediation Center is seeking three, part time Violence Interrupter for the Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Crown Heights program who will report to the Violence Interrupter Supervisor. S.O.S. Crown Heights is a replication of the Cure Violence program, a gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings through the use of public health strategies. The Violence Interrupters will work individually and as a team to prevent neighborhood shootings and killings from Kingston Avenue to Utica Avenue and Atlantic Avenue to Eastern Parkway. They provide conflict mediation services and serve as conduits to the program’s Outreach Workers.

Get Training in Peacemaking Circles

This is a powerful tool that can be used in schools and communities in peacemaking and reconciliation. The training is an opportunity for anyone interested in conflict resolution, community building or restorative justice to increase their skills and knowledge for having difficult conversations. The peacemaking circle is a dialogue process useful for increasing understanding among different perspectives and for creating effective solutions to long-standing issues of conflict or disconnection.

Advancing Racial Justice within Your Organization: A Workshop for Nonprofit Managers

Get Funding for Your Youth Justice Efforts

The Safe in the City Grant offers funding opportunities designed to support
community based actions and activities that will make neighborhoods
safer. In addition to funding, applicants will also be equipped with best
practices and strategies from the MOCJ’s Public Safety Tool Kit, further
empowering them to employ prevention, intervention and trauma response
methods while amplifying the voice of community to stand against violence
and promote healthy, vibrant neighborhoods.
